Bake Off boosts iPlayer
October 6, 2015
The return of The Great British Bake Off boosted requests on the BBC’s iPlayer in August, with the first four episodes of series six attracting 7.33 million views between them.
The BBC said the hit cooking show, which is on course for a record final next week, single-handedly helped the iPlayer make an “early exit from the traditional summer lull”. The first four episodes of series six were the most-requested TV content in August – but is not quite as popular as Top Gear, which in February set an iPlayer record with four episodes attracting 9 million views between them.
Overall, the BBC said there were 278 million TV and radio programme requests on the iPlayer in August, an 8 per cent increase on July and a 13 per cent year-on-year rise. There were 226 million TV requests, up 11 per cent on July and 24 per cent on August 2014.
