December 15, 2015
Sky News and Sky Sports have partnered with Twitter to be part of the UK launch of Twitter Moments. Sky News will appear as the only UK News broadcaster further enforcing its role as a leading news publisher on social media.
The new feature will enable Sky to showcase the best of its news and sports tweets to millions of Twitter customers in the UK further extending Sky’s social offerings.
As partners, @SkyNews and @SkySports will be able to curate their own Moments – accessed via the new lightning bolt button – for users on Twitter across Android, iPhone, and desktop and as with Tweets, a Moment can be shared anywhere. Sky News kicked off its Twitter Moments feed with British astronaut, Tim Peake’s journey to the International Space Station.
Andrew Hawken, Director of Products, Sky News, commented: “Sky News always aims to be at the forefront of social media innovation, embracing new ways to reach our customers. I’m delighted that our journalism is being showcased to Twitter Moments users. This is an exciting time as Sky News’ digital portfolio increases.”
Dave Gibbs, Sky Sports Director of Digital Media said: “Twitter Moments will help us continue to lead the conversation around the best sporting events on Sky Sports. Starting with the PDC World Darts Championship, Moments will help us capture the colour, atmosphere and drama of this unique sporting event, supporting and showcasing our live TV coverage.”
