Wonder Woman 1984 fast-tracked to PVoD

Wonder Woman 1984, the much-delayed DC sequel movie, finally got a cinema release in the UK on December 16th – the same day that large portions of the country were moved into stricter coronavirus restrictions, enforcing the closure of all entertainment venues.
With cinemas now shut indefinitely in around three quarters of the UK, Warner Bros has announced that the film will get a PVoD release on January 13th.
A statement from Warner Bros read: “In recognition of varying current market restrictions and to service the massive fan interest in Wonder Woman 1984, this film can be enjoyed by fans and families on the big screen where available in cinemas now, and in the comfort of their own home through Premium Video on Demand in the UK and Ireland starting on January 13. The film will continue to be available in cinemas where they are open, whilst also being available to watch at home for a 48-hour rental from participating digital retailers.”
Reports suggest that Warner Bros was unable to agree a deal with Sky to be the exclusive carrier of the movie – consequently the title is expected to be available on the usual platforms such as Amazon, iTunes and Google Play. Pricing is TBC.
In the US, the movie launches on SVoD platform HBO Max on December 25th.
