Recast relaunches
November 30, 2023
Live and on-demand streaming platform, Recast, has officially relaunched its services following last month’s acquisition of assets by Content Technology Partners (CTP).
Under the new ownership, which includes Recast Founder & CEO Andy Meikle and ex-Manchester United Executive Vice-President Ed Woodward, Recast says it has developed “a renewed vision and refreshed offering, all aimed at supporting rights-holders and publishers to grow both their reach and revenue, whilst giving fans flexible access to the content they desire”.
Recast Co-Founder and CEO, Andy Meikle, commented: “Firstly, we acknowledge how frustrating and disruptive the unforeseen challenges that Recast encountered earlier this year was for our publishers and their fans. We’re deeply sorry for everyone who was impacted by that. What has been clear over the past months however, is that Recast is a well-loved and much-needed addition to the content distribution market – we want to be part of the solution, working with a range of partners to amplify reach and revenue for rights holders across platforms. That’s why, throughout our transition into new ownership, we have been working tirelessly to bring all the strengths that Recast previously offered, but with tweaks to our focus, our model and functionality to open up new markets and unlock greater revenue potential for our partners. With our enhanced functionality we are working with rights-holders, agencies and existing OTT platforms to deliver a seamless experience for fans.”
One major development sees Recast shift from being a content destination (formerly known as Recast TV) to a self-serve content distribution and payment solution. Rights-holders can monetise both on-demand and live content not only on their own website but they can unlock value from fans on websites globally through Recast Affiliate. The new functionality enables rights holders to incentivise affiliates (athletes, teams, influencers, co-creators and brand partners) to host their content whilst maintaining complete control of price, geographical restrictions etc.
Recast’s proprietary micropayment technology enables fans to sign-up or log in to their Recast wallet on publisher websites at the touch of a button, while rights-holders can manage and share content, grow revenue and capture fan data all in one place.
