India Week 2024 celebrates Film Conclave and cross-border collaboration

India Week, a weeklong celebration of culture, innovation and collaboration, takes place from June 29th to July 6th. This vibrant event brings together thought leaders, industry experts and creatives from India and the UK to explore critical topics across various domains.
The UK is a home-away-from-home for Indian film and entertainment opportunities. The Film Conclave on July 6th is an annual conversation about Indian content, and the business of entertainment, in London. The event will bring together film production companies, distributors, content creators, agencies and others in the entertainment supply chain to have a meaningful conversation about business opportunities across film and entertainment between the two countries.
Session 1 – Bridging the Gap Between UK and Indian Cinema will kick off India Week’s 2024 inaugural Film Conclave, scheduled for July 6th. Filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals from both countries will converge to discuss opportunities in movie co-production, cross-border collaborations, and the evolving landscape of cinema. The sessions will delve into key issues such as funding, incentives, film exhibition, age ratings, licensing, and the delicate balance between artistic expression and self-imposed censorship.

Leslie-Anne Macfarlane (Head of Production and Film, Resource Productions): Macfarlane brings her expertise in production challenges faced by both large studios and independent filmmakers.
Session 2: The Intersection of Law and Celebrity: Balancing Privacy and Public Interest – Celebrity lawyer Sana Raees Khan will lead a compelling discussion on the delicate balance between protecting the privacy of stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, and Salman Khan while respecting the public’s right to information. Ethical considerations, legal frameworks, and real-world case studies will be explored.
This panel will explore acting opportunities for UK actors across ethnicities within Indian production companies. Additionally, it will address the feasibility of Indian actors establishing careers in the UK. Speakers include Kavino Nagulendren (Producer and Director, Mya Media Production), Naila Mughal (Casting Director), and Vaibhav Anand (Actor).
Session 3: Technological Advancements and the Future of Film, In-collaboration with Mugafi, this session will delve into the impact of technological advancements on the film industry. Topics include Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms, Visual Effects (VFX), Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speakers include: Industry leaders Thomas Drakovitch (Founder and MD, Dream Bay Entertainment) and Cary Rajinder Sawhney (Director, London Indian Film Festival) will share insights on adapting to these shifts.
Beyond the Film Conclave, India Week 2024 features discussions on politics, trade, business, sustainability, and inclusion. The flagship Ideas for India conference, organised in partnership with think tank Bridge India, focuses on business and policy.
