World’s largest IFE OLED screen proposed By Chris Forrester A proposal for an 8ft screen (97”) for airlines has been submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for approval and certification. The plan is to install the screens into private VIP aircraft, and integrated into an airplane’s structure in place of conventional windows. The application has to be certified in order to satisfy the FAA that the installation doesn’t threaten the aircraft’s core structure and airworthiness.
The giant screen concept comes from Oregon-based Rosen Aviation. The company is already skilled in fitting conventional screens measuring from 48”-55” and more recent 65”-77” versions. Rosen now says it can fit complete OLED sizes on business jets from 22” to the new 97”. Lee Clark, SVP/Strategy at Rosen Aviation, speaking to Executive & VIP Aviation, said: “This project for an undisclosed client has been in the works for some time now, and to see it come to fruition is nothing short of an amazing achievement. We are taking one giant 8-foot step towards closing the gap between what’s available at home and what we can put on an aircraft.”
