Shrubb joins Pure Fiction as Head of Development

June 13, 2024

Pure Fiction Television, the indie helmed by Tom Winchester, has expanded its development team with the appointment of Kat Shrubb as Head of Development.

Having an ambitious and growing slate of live developments, Shrubb joins the team to oversee and grow development activity alongside Laura Klimke and Yolanda Lee. In addition to the appointment, Winchester has also promoted Musanna Ahmed to Development Editor.

Shrubb is an experienced Development Producer and Story Producer working in scripted and drama television. Most recently she was Story Producer on Bad Sisters 2 for Apple TV+ and previous to that helped set up and run the scripted slates at Two Rivers Media and Fulwell 73 as Senior Development Producer. Kat has developed and worked on a wide range of TV series across multiple genres and platforms, including Luther, Silent Witness, Bancroft and BAFTA award winning Three Girls.

Hailing from Whitley Bay in the North East, Shrubb has a passion for developing talent from that region and will be looking to find projects that will champion working class and North Eastern creatives, as part of her wider remit in line with Pure Fiction’s particular interest in discovering underrepresented voices from across the UK and beyond, and drawing these stories into a mainstream space.

Pure Fiction’s slate is focussed on Prestige Commercial content: elevated, bold drama, which is ambitious in style and scale, yet unashamedly entertaining and with a commercial sensibility. It includes the hugely popular, high-end adaptation of the Rivers of London series of nine bestselling books, short stories, novellas and graphic novels by Ben Aaronovitch, with John Jackson (The Gentleman, No Escape, Being Human) leading the writers room; and bestselling author Dolores Redondo’s Baztan Trilogy and the prequel, La Cara Norte Del Corazón (The North Face of The Heart) which are being developed into a returning, premium international TV series with screenwriter and playwright, Lydia Adetunji (His Dark Materials, Noughts & Crosses, The Last Kingdom).

Shrubb said: “It’s such a joy to be joining Tom and the hugely experienced team at Pure Fiction. They have put together an ambitious and distinctive slate and with a shared interest in bringing underrepresented stories to the commercial space, I’m excited to contribute to this brilliant vision for the future.”

Winchester added “We’ve had an incredibly exciting start at Pure Fiction, and I’m thrilled that Kat has joined the team to turbo charge this next stage of growth. Her passion and enthusiasm for the industry are infectious, and her track record for developing quality drama is hugely impressive. I can’t wait to see what Kat and Musanna do next.”
