TRUE CRIME announces 4 new original productions
June 25, 2024
TRUE CRIME, the #1 factual entertainment channel in the UK amongst women 16+[1], part of a joint venture owned by AMC Networks International – UK and Paramount Global, has revealed four original productions coming to the channel in September, including a brand new three-part series about Elaine Parent, known as the ‘Chameleon Killer’, or ‘the world’s most wanted woman’ in the 1990s and early 2000s.
For “The Hunt for the Chameleon Killer” (3×60), TRUE CRIME has, for the first time, partnered with Impossible Factual production company. It follows the story of a serial identity thief and murderer, Elaine Parent, who is known to have stolen more than 20 identities as she moved around the world and conned people out of personal information and money. The series zooms in on the murder of her only known victim, Beverly McGowan, a 34-year-old bank clerk whose body was recovered in rural south Florida, in 1990.
Adam Luria, Head of Documentary at Impossible Factual, added: “The story of Elaine Parent, is one full of twists and turns that will take viewers on a journey of murder and mystery spanning twelve years and multiple countries. It’s a compelling story that keeps at its heart the victims of Parent’s manipulation and murderous rage, and the monumental efforts of a small Florida sheriff’s office to track this vicious killer all over the world in their attempts to bring her to justice.
“Sam Rowden and Jess Rampling at TRUE CRIME have been incredibly passionate about and supportive of the project from the moment we brought it to them, and we’re extremely excited to be working with them to bring this fascinating story to the screen.”
The September line-up also includes a new season of one of the channel’s signature series, the audience favourite “Murder by the Sea” (season 9, 10×60, produced by Monster Films), once again presented by crime historian Dr Nell Darby, as she travels around the UK’s seaside towns to unveil these picturesque spots’ darkest secrets.
“Killers: Caught on Camera” (10×60, produced by back2back productions), which focuses on CCTV analysis and features renowned forensic psychologist Dr Julia Shaw, is returning for a second season this autumn after its successful debut last year.
Finally, “Bloodline Detectives” (20×60, produced by Peninsula Television), a long-standing series that explores familial DNA and genetic genealogy and how DNA is used in the US to solve cold cases, is returning for its fifth season.
Sam Rowden, VP of Content at AMC Networks International – UK, said: “We are delighted to see our most popular titles return to TRUE CRIME this autumn, alongside the new, three-part series that explores the gripping story of the notorious ‘Chameleon Killer’ and her murder victim.
“Our main objective is to offer our audience an authentic insight into crime investigation through engaging top experts in their respective fields. This allows us to tell each case in forensic detail from the people who were part of the process of getting justice for each victim and their loved ones. We uphold this commitment to high production standards and level of care by collaborating with some of the leading factual UK production companies, such as back2back productions, Impossible Factual, Monster Films and Peninsula Television, who all share our vision.”
“The Hunt for the Chameleon Killer” and the new episodes of “Murder by the Sea”, ”Killers: Caught on Camera”, “Bloodline Detectives” will be shown on TRUE CRIME throughout September. The programmes will also be available to stream on WATCH FREE UK after the linear premiere and TRUE CRIME UK on ITVX.
