Tiny Speck Productions has joined forces with Nest Productions to film the pilot of a new scripted comedy series, directed by Matt Lipsey (Ted Lasso, Inside No.9, Intelligence) and starring Omid Djalili (C4’s The Change), Tom Goodman-Hill (Netflix’s Baby Reindeer) and Llewella Gideon (Queenie, Top Boy, Rye Lane).
The series pilot is a scripted comedy set in Ipswich, Suffolk, where Djalili’s production company Tiny Speck is based. The pilot is being produced with support from Ipswich Borough Council.
Executive Producers are Omid Djalili and Shahin Sobhani (The Infidel, Guidance), with producers Ara Devine, Isabella Djalili-Devine, and Louis Djalili. Omid Djalili, Isabella Djalili-Devine, Louis Djalili, and Ara Devine wrote the pilot.
Derek Drennan and Stew Batt, co-founders and joint MDs of Nest Productions, said: Working with Omid and the Tiny Speck team on their first scripted comedy series is an honour – it’s already been an absolute blast working on this pilot with the whole team on the shoot in Suffolk and we are beyond excited to put it out into the world. The partnership with them is the start of brilliant things to come and the support of the council and so many of our talented colleagues from the world of comedy has been invaluable. It has been great to see so many people in the industry and outside of the industry feel so positively about the series. Here’s to many more shoots in Ipswich and beyond with Tiny Speck!”
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, commented: I’m thrilled to be working with Omid and the team at Tiny Speck Productions and I’m pleased that they are so keen to work positively in partnership with us and others in the town. The creative and cultural sector is an important part of our economy and projects that put a spotlight on the sector and Ipswich can only be a good thing.”
Omid Djalili said: “Very excited to be working with Matt Lipsey (the Steven Spielberg of British comedy directors) and Tom Goodman-Hill – one of the UK’s most versatile actors – in what is going to be the first comedy set in Suffolk since the 1980s. Wish I could tell you more but with the A-list talent and crew attached to this project you can imagine our coruscating wonderment for what we are trying to produce.”
Goodman-Hill stated: “When Omid asked me to come and work with him and sent me an irresistible script, I jumped at the chance. And to be directed by the brilliant Matt Lipsey and working with a fantastic ensemble of inspired comedy newcomers, I couldn’t wait to start. It’s funny and fresh and I can’t wait for people to see it!”
Lipsey added: So happy to be working with my old mate Omid again on a very funny project. Big bonus: it is being produced by his own company, Tiny Speck run by he and his very talented family. I think we have made some very exciting comedy, so watch this space!”
